Dhan Demat & Trading Account Opening Process

Once your mobile number is registered, you can open a Dhan Demat account either through the Dhan app or the trading website. The online account opening process is really fast and seamless and takes less than 10 minutes to open a Dhan investment account.

Steps to open a Dhan Demat account online;

• Visit the Dhan App/Web and click on "Open a Demat Account"
• Enter your mobile number and 6-digit OTP to proceed.
• Verify your email ID, by entering your email address and confirmation code.
• Set a 6-digit PIN to log in to your Dhan account.
• Click on "Finish KYC & Onboarding
• PAN Verification: upload your PAN card as a mandatory document.
• Add personal details: Enter the date of birth, gender, and marital status.
• Upload Address Proof: You can choose between Aadhaar card, driving licence, and passport.
• Take a live selfie for personal video verification.
• Next step is to upload your signature as per PAN.
• Enter details like income, profession/employment, and trading experience.
• Link your bank account by entering the account number, IFSC code, and branch.
• Proceed to sign the account opening form through Aadhaar OTP verification.
• Set a password for your Dhan trading account and that's it!
• The process is complete; you will receive your Dhan account credentials in the welcome email. Use the credentials to log in to your Dhan account and start investing.

Dhan account opening documents

To open a Dhan investment account, users must submit the following documents for KYC verification;

• Scanned copy of your PAN card, a valid proof of identity.
• Proof of address: Aadhaar card, driving licence, passport, etc.
• Bank Account Proof: Bank passbook or canceled cheque leaf with account holder's name, branch and IFSC code.
• Income proof: Bank statement for the last 6 months, last pay stub, IT, Form 16, etc.
• Photo of the applicant.
• Signature of the applicant on plain white paper. The signature must be matched with the PAN card.
• Note: Proof of income is only required for trading in the Futures & Options segment.

Dhan Demat Account Closure

To close the Dhan Demat account, one needs to submit the duly filled account closure form to the Dhan Head Office. Alternatively, you can also request account closure by mail from your registered email address.

Clients cannot close Dhan trading and demat accounts online as the broker only allows offline closures. Please ensure the following before closing your Dhan Demat account;

• No negative balance in the Dhan trading account.
• No securities in the Dhan Demat account, if any, sell them or transfer them to another Demat account.
• Withdraw your money and settle all balances due.

Note: There are no fees for closing your Dhan Demat account, in fact, you can close your Dhan account completely free of charge!

Dhan account closure form is available on the website in PDF format. Anyone who wants to close an account with Dhan can visit the "Download Centre" webpage and get the account closure form. Fill in the details such as the name of the account holder's name, reason for closure, address, etc., and send the form to Dhan Head Office by post or courier.
