Institutional investors who place IPO bid for more than Rs 2 lakh but are not SEBI registered, is known as non-institutional investors. NIIs are further classified as small NII and Big NII.
Small NII: Non-institutional investors who invest 2 lakh to 10 Lakh are called small NIIs. Out of 15% shares reserved for NIIs, 5% is reserved for small NIIs.
Big NII: Non-institutional investors who submit IPO bids for more than Rs 10 lakh are known as Big NIIs. Out of 15% NII quota, 10% shares are reserved for big NIIs.
